Show an atheist a little love...

Dear BF sent me a link to this site yesterday. There's some really funny (and highly offensive) T-shirts that you can buy at a very reasonable price. I checked out the blog and unfortunately, there don't seem to be many atheists commenting there. Check out the blog and buy a shirt. I'd love to have the "Try Satan! He'll let you do anal" shirt, but I'm afraid I'd never have a chance to wear it.

Fuck you, Nader

Haven't you done enough? Now he's gone off and said that Obama is the "biggest con artist in our generation by far." Ok, Nader. You go ahead and tell yourself whatever makes you feel superior. You can tell yourself that in that fairy land that you live in. In the real world that the rest of us live in, there's a choice to be made. Yes, it's probably not the best choice ever. Yes, it sucks that we can't all live in that fairy land of yours. But, when it comes to choosing between McCain and Obama, there is a CLEAR difference and advantage in choosing Obama, in my opinion.

Earlier this summer, I was approached at a festival to sign a petition to try to get Nader's name on the ballot. I said that from what I read, I agreed with most of what Nader stands for but that I couldn't in good conscience help him get on the ballot. His supporter tried to argue that Gore actually won back in 2000 and that it was his own fault for not pushing harder. But, honestly, people...if Nader hadn't taken so many votes away from Gore would we have been in that position in the first place? I'm particularly proud now that I stood my ground and didn't sign that petition.

Let's face it: our system is broken. In some pretty major ways. But, again, we all still have to live with the reality of what our system is RIGHT NOW. It doesn't matter what we want it to be in the fairy land that we all go to when we've had enough of the bullshit. What matters is the way the system works on election day...in the real world. Nader, pull your head outta your ass and join the rest of us in the real world for once. If you truly cared about this country, you wouldn't be deriding Obama as a con artist. My mama told me, and I'm sure yours did too: If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. But, don't make the mistake of saddling this country with four more years of the same failed policies, cronyism and straight up bullshit that has driven us to the low point we find ourselves in. And, especially don't make that mistake because you think that you should run the country, when it clearly ain't gonna happen.

Thankfully, it seems no one much listens to Nader anymore.

Note: this post was written about two weeks ago, when Nader first made the con artist comment. I have since had a pretty lengthy discussion with a Nader supporter. I continue to stick by my assertion that we have to deal with the system we have now, not the system we would like to have.

In Defense of Dignity

I just stumbled upon this article via Pharyngula. It's heart wrenching. I think I'm going to walk out to my mailbox and see if my ballot is there.

Matt Damon rocks

Ok, I had heard that Matt Damon likened Sarah Palin in the white house to a "bad Disney movie." but until tonight, I hadn't actually seen the video. He goes on to talk about wanting to know if Palin believes that dinosaurs were here only 4,000 years ago and if she banned books or wanted to ban books. Rock on, Matt! So, yes, I'm late to the party, but if you haven't seen it yet, click here for the video. Also, this is pretty damn funny and a little laughter which you might be needing if you've been contemplating "President Palin."
